Donald Trump, 47th president of the United States, is expected to sign a slew of ‘executive orders’ on his first day in office, many of which concern affairs related to the environment, climate change and health.

‘Executive orders’ carry the weight of law but can be overturned by subsequent presidents or the courts, as per the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC). Many could face legal challenges.

The president-elect is expected to sign an order that will change the name of the Gulf of Mexico — the waterbody that separates the United States from the Greater Antilles and Mesoamerica — to the ‘Gulf of America’ according to reports in the US media.

Another important change of name will be of Mount Denali in Alaska. The highest mountain peak in North America will be again called ‘Mt McKinley’ instead of Denali, changed by Trump’s predecessor Barack Obama in 2015. Denali is the native Alaskan Athabaskan name for the peak.

Trump is also expected to sign an order directing federal agencies to “study trade policies and evaluate US trade relationships with China and America's continental neighbours”, the BBC reported, quoting the Wall Street Journal.

The president-elect is expected to declare a national energy emergency, according to the British national broadcaster. It will allow the US to produce more natural resources and jobs, in order to strengthen national security.

The Biden administration’s directives, regulations and programmes that aimed to boost green jobs, regulate the fossil fuel industry and limit pollution will also be on Trump’s radar.

The new president is also expected to pull out of the 2015 Paris Agreement which he earlier did in his first stint in office in 2017. The US had rejoined the agreement under Joe Biden.

Trump 2.0 will also ban federal aid to international groups that provide abortion counselling. An abortion rule reinstated by Trump would strip millions of dollars from organisations that offer abortion or provide referrals, as per the BBC.
