A tiny 'microcar', an exact replica ofa commercial car, has been built byJapanese workers at the NisshinResearch Laboratory at Nippon-denso, Japan. The car is just 4.8 mmlong and 1.8 mm wide.

It is constructed bya seven-stageprocess wherein initially, a siliconerubber cast is made which is thenmoulded in a molten bismuthsilicon alloy. The next processinvolves nickel-plating with anelectric discharge machine. Andfinally, after etching in silicone oil(at 150C), it is gold plated. The carhas a top speed of 0.36 kmph, attainable with the aid of a tinyelectromagnetic motor.
