Monsoon covered the entire country on Thursday. With rains lashing Saurashtra and Kutch regions of Gujarat and west Rajasthan, southwest monsoon advanced into the regions that had been left out so far. Monsoon in these areas was delayed by two days. The latest spell of rains has renewed hopes of monsoon recovery and overcoming rainfall deficit this season.
The monsoon also covered remaining parts of north Arabian sea. Minimum temperatures were found to be above normal by 2-3°C at many places in Uttarakhand, Haryana, Delhi, Odisha and coastal Andhra Pradesh. Temperatures were normal in rest of the country.
According to the latest three-day forecast by India Meteorological Department, maximum temperatures would fall by 1-2°C in northwest India and adjoining central India.
On July 18, heavy rainfall is expected to occur in parts of Uttrakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya.
Similar showers are expected in east Rajasthan, Bihar, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, coastal and south Karnataka, Gujarat, and Goa.
