The air quality situation in Delhi and surrounding cities has shown some improvement following rainfall on January 15 but the foggy mornings are here to stay for a while.

The rainfall also resulted in the AQI in Delhi dropping to 294, categorised as 'very poor' from the 'severe' levels of over 400 earlier this week but a marked improvement compared to previous days.

The India Meteorological Department (has forecasted partly cloudy skies for Friday, with smog and dense fog expected in most areas during the morning, and very dense fog in isolated pockets.

The fog has led to dozens of flights and trains being cancelled on a daily basis.

The windy conditions have made the winter temperatures particularly unbearable this year.
