German biologistWolfgang Peter from theZoological Gardens ofMun-ster found a pair ofblack horns - 45 cm long,twisted to the side with regular corrugations fading outat the back - belonging toan animal of this species in amarket stall in Ho Chi MinhCity. After comparing thehorns with those of knownspecies, scientists have concluded that they belong to anew species, now namedPseudonovibos spiralis, forwhich the common name inVietnam is linh duong(mountain goat).
