• The UK-based book publisher Random House has publicly agreed to make its book production "ancient forest friendly". They have decided to source the paper from only plantation forests.

• The Karnataka High Court has said that bullocks should be treated as living beings on a par with humans and not as objects. The court ruling, which came in a motor vehicle accident case, stated that though bullocks are treated as property of humans, they should be recognised as having their own existence.
