Civil society organisations participating in the UN climate change conference in Warsaw have planned not to take part in it any more. With just about 48 hours to go before the conference concludes, these NGOs feel that developed countries have repeatedly blocked progress on a number of key issues, including finance and ‘Loss and Damage’.
Civil society members are also irked over the Polish government’s rigid attitude on resolving the climate change tangle.
Holding a coal summit parallel to the climate change summit; pushing corporate funding instead of public finance into the Green Climate Fund; and sacking of Marcin Korolec, Polish environment minister because of his opposition to shale gas are some of the key grouses of the civil society groups.
Climate Action Network which comprises over 800 NGOs from around the world will take part in this walkout. However, the network has left it to its individual members to take a call on whether they want to take part in this boycott.
