Pakistan's power sectoris poised for a big boost with the recent announcement of a US $600 million financial package by the World Bank (WB) to produce electricity from untapped natural gas reserves in thesouth-west region of the country. Several US, Europeanand Asian companies and banks will be involved in theproject. The aim is to install one steam and three gas turbine generators producing up to 586 MW. According tothe WB , the project would not displace the Jamali tribals inBaluchistan and will fulfill all environmental requirements.
