Electric Car usa

It was among the fastest, most efficient cars ever built. It ran on electricity, produced no emissions and catapulted American technology to the forefront of the automotive industry. The few who drove it never wanted to give it up. So why did General Motors, which brought out the Saturn ev1 electric vehicles in 1996, end up crushing them in the Arizona desert six years on? Who Killed the Electric Car? a 92-minute documentary, chronicles the life and untimely death of the only electric car to be manufactured and marketed by an American automobile company and attempts to pin down the forces responsible for its demise.

gm pulled the cars off the road, saying they weren't cost effective and only appealed to a small number of people. But was it really the lack of consumers or were other behind-the-scene forces at work? Through interviews and investigations of auto-makers, legislators, engineers, consumers and car enthusiasts, the film tries to piece together the answer. Suspects include car companies, the oil industry, the us government, bad ad campaigns and consumers themselves. With oil prices skyrocketing, fossil fuel shortages predicted and unrest in the West Asia, this film couldn't be more relevant to the times.
