There are a total of 389.77 million registered vehicles in India as on February 8, 2025. Of these 5.675 million are electric vehicles (EVs) according to the e-Vahan portal operated by the Union Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, Minister of State for Heavy Industries Bhupathiraju Srinivasa Varma told the Lok Sabha on February 11, 2025.
The PM E-DRIVE scheme ensures accessibility and affordability of EVs through targeted subsidies and demand incentives for electric two-wheelers and three wheelers on a pan-India basis, including in rural and semi-urban areas.
The scheme also has an allocation of Rs 2,000 crore to install EV charging infrastructure across India and address the issue of range anxiety among EV buyers.
The crude incidence rate of stroke in India increased by 30.1 per cent (26.5 to 33.7) from 1990 to 2019 as per the Global Burden of Disease study, Minister of State in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Prataprao Jadhav told the Rajya Sabha.
He added that the Indian Council of Medical Research has not collected data on the trends of increasing stroke cases and deaths among young Indians.
However, National Centre for Diseases Information and Research (NCDIR) has undertaken a population-based urban and rural registry at Ludhiana, Dibrugarh, Kota, Varanasi, Cuttack, Cachar and Tirunelveli in collaboration with medical colleges & hospitals, for estimating stroke burden in the community. NCDIR is also undertaking 38 hospital-based registries.

Presently, there is no proposal for providing electricity through solar energy to each household in every village in the country. However, the Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy is implementing PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana (PM-SGMBY) to install rooftop solar (RTS) for 10 million households, PM-KUSUM and New Solar Power Scheme to promote solar energy in houses and farms in the country including in the state of Karnataka. These schemes are being implemented by implementing agencies of respective states/Union territories, Minister of State for New & Renewable Energy and Power Shripad Yesso Naik told the Rajya Sabha.
The share of solar energy to the total new and renewable energy production in India stands at 32.43 per cent for the period April-December 2024 as per monthly renewable energy generation report of Central Electricity Authority, Naik said.
The government has announced the PM-SGMBY to promote solar energy for domestic use. The scheme targets to achieve RTS installations in 10million households in the residential sector by financial year 2026-27.
A total of 17.1 million registrations and 4.515 million applications have been received as of February 6, 2025, on the National Portal across India. Further, 886,000 residential households have been benefitted through RTS installations under the scheme, Naik said.
A total of 209.44 GW Renewable Energy capacity has been installed in the country as of December 31, 2024. Further, about 167.21 GW of renewable energy projects are under implementation and projects of 79.27 GW have been tendered, Naik said.
The Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy issued an Office Memorandum (OM) for implementation of Approved List of Models and Manufactures (ALMM) for Solar PV Cells on December 9 last year.
The OM proposes issuance of ALMM List-II for solar PV cells which is envisaged to be effective from June 1, 2026.
Further, the OM inter-alia states that all projects falling under the purview of ALMM shall have to mandatorily source their solar PV modules from models and manufacturers included in ALMM List-I for solar PV modules.
Such solar PV modules, in turn, shall have to use solar PV cells from among the models and manufacturers enlisted in ALMM List-II for solar PV cells, Naik said.
