The Worker Population Ratio for women has increased from 22 per cent in 2017-18 to 40.3 per cent in 2023-24 and the Labour Force Participation Rate for women has risen from 23.3 per cent in 2017-18 to 41.7 per cent in 2023-24, according to Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister of labour and employment told the Rajya Sabha.

Data from the Periodic Labour Force Survey indicates that 39.6 per cent of women with post-graduate education and above are employed in 2023-24, up from 34.5 per cent in 2017-18, he said. Additionally, 23.9 per cent of women with a higher secondary education are part of the workforce in 2023-24, compared to 11.4 per cent in 2017-18, the minister noted.

Aayad river not among CPCB’s list of polluted river stretches

As many as 311 river stretches across 279 of the 603 rivers monitored were identified as polluted in 30 states and Union territories (UT), according to the Central Pollution Control Board’s (CPCB) 2022 report. However, the Aayad River, does not figure in this report, Raj Bhushan Choudhary, Union Minister of State for Jal Shakti (water resources) told the Lok Sabha.

As per Rajasthan Pollution Control Board, untreated / partially treated / fully treated domestic sewage is being discharged into Aayad river, he added.

484 projects approved under Namami Gange programme

Choudhary informed the Lok Sabha that under the Namami Gange program, 484 projects have been approved. These include 203 projects for establishing sewage treatment plants with a capacity of 6,255 MLD and a sewer network spanning 5,249 kilometres, at a total cost of Rs 39,604 crore.

Ethanol blending in petrol increases to 14.6%

Ethanol blending rose to 12.06 per cent in the Ethanol Supply Year (ESY) 2022-23 and approximately 14.6 per cent during ESY 2023-24. according to Suresh Gopi, Union Minister of State for petroleum & natural gas, who addressed the Lok Sabha.

Over the past decade, ethanol blending in petrol by Public Sector Oil Marketing Companies has saved more than Rs 1,08,655 crore in foreign exchange as of September 30, 2024, according to Suresh Gopi, Minister of State in the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, who addressed the Lok Sabha.

No instance of cancer due to polluted rivers in Uttar Pradesh

The Krishni and Hindon rivers pass through the Baghpat District in Uttar Pradesh and the Kali (West) river merges with the Hindon before it reaches Baghpat.

Choudhary told the Lok Sabha that the Uttar Pradesh government reported no instances of cancer or severe illnesses in the health camps conducted near the Hindon and Krishni rivers.

According to CPCB, the water quality of the Krishni river in Baghpat district was found to be neutral with a pH of 7.2 and no arsenic was detected, Choudhary mentioned.

10 missing tigers confirmed present in Ranthambhore

Ten of the initially reported 25 missing tigers have been confirmed to be present in the Ranthambhore Tiger Reserve. The latest national assessment of tigers, co-predators and prey (2022) estimated the tiger population in the Ranthambhore Tiger Reserve to be 57 ± 0.13.

There are no reports of unoccupied tiger territories in the reserve, stated Kirti Vardhan Singh, Union Minister of State for environment, forest and climate change told Rajya Sabha.

730 deaths due to heatwaves in 2022

There were a total of 730 deaths due to heat / sun stroke in 2022, according to the National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB) under the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).

Currently, there are no records available for 2023-24, as stated by Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for science and technology and earth sciences, in the Rajya Sabha.

Waste processing capacity receives boost

Compared to 2014 when only 16 per cent of waste was processed, the current processing capacity has risen to 80.26 per cent, Tokhan Sahu, Union Minister of State for housing and urban affairs said in the Lok Sabha.

A total of 161,910 tonnes of municipal solid waste is produced daily in the urban regions of the country. Of this, 129,949 tonnes per day are processed.
