Dharavi Redevelopment Project renamed as Navbharat Mega Developers

Adani group has been given the responsibility to develop the area which is touted as the world's biggest slum

The Adani Group, which is tasked with the redevelopment of Mumbai's Dharavi area, has renamed Dharavi Redevelopment Project as Navbharat Mega Developers Private Limited (NMDPL).

The move, although seeks to incorporate development initiatives apart from upgrading it from a slum, has strategic undertones as well.

As of November 2024, the project has seen an investment of approximately Rs 2,000 crore.

The rebranding is not only about giving the project a facelift but is aimed at avoiding confusion with the Dharavi Redevelopment Authority (DRA), the government’s planning body overseeing the project.

Dharavi is not just another slum -- it is a hub of economic activity, with an estimated annual turnover of over $1 billion.
