At least 28 people have tragically lost their lives, and nearly 40,000 have been displaced by the worst wildfires ever to strike South Korea. These raging blazes stretch across 70 kilometers, burning through more than 45,000 hectares of forested land in the country’s southeast.
As of March 28, 2025 it has become the largest forest fire in South Korea’s history. Acting President Han Duck-soo has called this an unprecedented crisis.
