In 2021, India launched the second leg of its flagship programme, the Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) 2.0, billed as the world’s largest sanitation drive. Delhi-based think tank Centre for Science and Environment has partnered with the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (which oversees SBM 2.0) to build capacities of all stakeholders for strengthening the Mission’s implementation on the ground.

Under this partnership, officials from over 450 urban local bodies and 39 non-government entities have undergone intensive residential training in CSE’s green campus, the Anil Agarwal Environment Training Institute (AAETI). Many of these trainees have been able to implement the learnings in their respective fields and zones — the Changemakers’ Conclave has brought them together to share these experiences of implementation.
