India has entered yet another year of extreme heat. In 2025, most parts of the country are likely to face above normal day and night time temperatures.

Even as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a normal southwest monsoon, it has also said that many areas will be seeing not just above normal temperatures but also above-normal number of heatwave days.

With temperatures already rising, India has started recording heatwave
and warm night conditions.

Extreme heat during the day, followed by unusually warm nights, can
have compounding health consequences for human beings. Warm nights are especially dangerous for informal workers and those involved in manual labour throughout the day, as their bodies are exposed to heat all day and do not get a chance to cool down even during the night.

The analysis of the data for this week shows that while temperatures in most parts of the country are either within or below normal levels, temperatures in some of the northern and Northeastern cities like Srinagar, Leh, Itanagar, Guwahati, Imphal, Kohima, Agartala, are bucking this trend and witnessing a rise in temperatures unusual for this time of the year.
