E-waste posing health risks for workers in scrapyards
Computers are not designed for recycling. It's not surprising, therefore, that in Europe and the us, a computer is thrown away every two years. And there are thousands of other electronic gadgets. 20-50 million tonnes of e-waste is generated annually worldwide. A lot of these castoffs are now finding their way into India. Add another few million tonnes generated within the country. Much of this junk is unusable and goes straight to the scrap heap. But workers at the scrapyards know that valuable stuff can be extricated out of computer debris.
