
Tree felling for wind farms
The National Green Tribunal (NGT) on January 29 directed Gujarat's principal chief conservator of forest to conduct an inspection of the area in Sangnara village in Kutch district where trees were being felled by M/s. Green Infra Wind Energy Ltd and seven other wind energy companies in order to construct wind farms.
Sand mining in Basloi river
The NGT on January 28 disposed of an application on illegal and unrestricted mining of sand from the bed of Jharkhand's Basloi river. The order came in the wake of the report submitted by a joint committee. It stated that mining of sand was being done very systematically, under strict surveillance of the District Level Task Force Committee.
Brick kilns in West Bengal
The NGT on January 28 directed the West Bengal Pollution Control Board to ensure that all existing brick kilns convert to zig zag technology within six months.
