THE Centre for Science and Environment(CSE) held a workshop and a seminar todiscuss India's stance prior to the Fourth Conference of Parties on ClimateChange (cop-4), which is currently being held in Buenos Aires, Argentina.Representatives of South Asian non-governmental organisations (NGOs) par-ticipated in the meet. Climate change is the biggest environmental threat to theworld's ecosystems. But very little information is available on its impact,especially in developing countries, saidthe participants. Experts warned aboutpossible melting of the Himalayan glaciers and disappearance of small islandsdue to a rise in the sea level.

Meanwhile CSE urged prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee to ensure thatthe Indian delegation goes to Buenos Aires armed with a good brief fromthe cabinet. "Having put forward the idea of 'equal entitlements', Indiamust insist that it should be accepted immediately," CSE director Anil Agarwalsaid.
