The Tamil Nadu AgriculturalUniversity, Coimbatore, has comeup with an innovative tractor-drawn groundnut harvester.Groundnut is usually harvested byhand, which consumes a lot of timeand energy. The groundnut harvester is applicable for a 35 horsepower tractor attached to a nine-tyred cultivator frame. The harvester comes in the form of a carbonsteel blade with a five degreeapproach angle which covers awidth of 1.7 m per passage. Theaverage field capacity of the harvester is 2.25 ha per day and theblade attachment to the cultivatorframe costs Rs 2,000 only.
