In a pioneering effort, Vortoil Separation Systems Ltd of Gloucester,UK, has developed a hydro cycloneseparator to remove oil from water.The hydrocyclone separator canconvert the kinetic energy containedby flowing liquids into powerfulcentrifugal forces. This results in theinstantaneous separation of oil andwater. The vortex action inside thetube causes the two liquids of varying densities to flow in oppositedirections, and water and oil are collected from the exits at each end ofthe tube. Thehydrocyclone separator limits potential harm to theenvironment.
