AS FAR as statistical particulars go, theInternational Bureau of the WorldIntellectual Property Organisation(w-ipo), has come up with an interestingdetail. It received its 250,000th international application for a patent early lastmonth, under the Patent CooperationTreaty (PCT). The applicant reportedlybelongs to the us and the patent was foran application in the field of environmental technology.
While the 100,000th internationalapplication under the PCT was receivedin February 1991, 13 years after PcT tookshape, the latest landmark achieved inonly five years since the filing of the100,000th patent application, is beingattributed to express growth of thePCT system.
