THE environment crisis which is threatening to engulf us hasforced the Association of South-East Asian Nations(ASEAN) to do a rethink on how tosave the naturalresources. In a recent two-day meetingat Kuala Lumpur, officials of theASEAN working group on environmentaleconomics decided to develop anenvironmental and natural resourcesaccounting manual and adopt state-of-the-art instruments for pollutioncontrol.

Funding for the two projects isexpected to come from the Canadiangovernme@t under the economicand environment programme forSouth-East Asia. ISO 14000, the international standard for environmental management will be advocated withgreater thrust, especially in smalland medium industries, in order tokeep pace. with developments inindustrialised nations.
