The Tamil Nadu AgriculturalUniversity in Coimbatore, has developed a deVice to help in the dehusking of coconut. The thick outercovering of the nut is difficult toremove and has to be stripped awayslowly with the help of a sharpimplement which requires time andmanual labour. The new deviceconsists of a tong-like structuremounted on a pillar. The coConut tobe dehusked is placed on a platformbelow the tong, the jaws of whichbreak into the husk as it is presseddown.
