World Press Freedom Day: May 3, United Nations Ten stories the world should hear more about

Iraq, Iraq and so much Iraq that ahead of World Press Freedom Day on May 3, the un gently reminded the world's media that its neglecting other serious crises in the world.

'Ten stories...' is a list of issues that the United Nations Department of Public Information feels has become 'second-rung' and need more attention. The livelihood of 200 million people depends on fishing, but over-fishing as a threat to marine biodiversity hasn't made headlines, says the un department. Indigenous people face extinction because the modern world is eating up their living space but the issue hasn't been highlighted. Shashi Tharoor, un Under-Secretary-General for Public Information, told journalists at the release of the list, "Many stories that should engage your attention are slipping off the radar screen."
