Cosmologists have narrowed down the age of the Universe to less than five per cent error. The latest calculation shows that the age of the universe is about 14 billion years with an uncertainty of about 500 million years. This is older than the previous estimate of about 13 billion years. L Knox and his colleagues at the University of California, USA, have concluded that there is a 68 per cent chance that the universe is between 13.5 billion and 14.5 billion years old with a 95 per cent chance that it is between 13-15 billion years old.
