Highlights of the interim budget 2009-2010
Spending on rural economy has reduced by 27% over last year. Spending on agriculture has come down by 44% since last year and stands at 1.64% of gdp against 2.59% last year
Spending on education is 0.7% of gdp. The common minimum programme of the upa had promised 6% gdp share for education
Public expenditure reduced from 2.59% of gdp last year to 1.62% this year
nrega got a mere 0.33% increase in plan allocation over last year's, from Rs 30,000 crore to Rs 30,100 crore.
Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan received Rs 13,100 crore, up from Rs 11,940 crore last year. Swarnajayanti Gram Swarozgar Yojana saw an increase of just Rs 2 crore
Rural water supply and sanitation allocations remained stagnant at last year's Rs 7,400 crore for Rajiv Gandhi Rural Drinking Water Mission and Rs 1,200 core for Rural sanitation
Allocations for food security have declined since 2006-07 from 1.35% of gdp to 1.12%. Mid-day meals expenditure stays stagnant at Rs 8,000 crore. The Integrated Child Development Services increased by 6.5%
The expenditure on health and family welfare rose by just 2% since 2008-09
Defence budget is up by 34% to Rs 141,703 crore
Rs 95,579 crore subsidies for food, fertilizer and petroleum
