A voice for renewables

a global network of non-governmental organisations ( ngo s), business associations and scientific institutions has launched the World Council for Renewable Energies ( wcre ), to encourage the use of renewable energy. The organisation has been set up because, its supporters say, the World Energy Council favours the use of fossil fuels and nuclear energy. A principal demand of the network is the setting up of an international agency for renewable energies, which should be funded by national governments. "It is unacceptable that while there is a subsidised international agency for atomic energy, no such organisation has been set up for renewable energy resources," rue wcre officials. "Creation of such an agency needs the initiative of governments that have implemented programmes for renewable energies so that they can be considered as trustworthy authorities," they added.
