Effluent treatment plant at 12 public health facilities planned for Tripura: NGT told
A status report filed by Tripura mentioning the steps taken for solid, plastic and bio-medical waste management came up for discussion before the National Green Tribunal (NGT) on May 7, 2019. The report mentioned that Solid Waste Management Policy was prepared by the Urban Development Department in October 2018 and Rs 3.50 crore has been allocated for door-to-door solid waste collection and source segregation. Further, process has been initiated for setting up 12 effluent treatment plant (ETP) for pre-treatment of bio-medical waste.
The NGT said that a huge gap exists in the steps taken and the steps required to be taken in terms of the Solid Waste Management Rules 2016 and for ensuring sustainable development.
Sand mining on the river bed of Putulia to be probed by chief secretary: NGT
The NGT on May 7, 2019 expressed its dissatisfaction with the report furnished by the District Magistrate, Burdwan, which had stated that there was no violation of sand mining guidelines, and said that the report cannot be accepted in the absence of adequate particulars like photographs and other material.
The Tribunal directed the chief secretary of West Bengal to look into the complaint of illegal sand mining on the river bed of Putulia (Runakura Ghat) Barabani, Paschim Burdwan, and submit a report within two months.
Garbage being dumped and burned near a school in Kapurthala: Case in NGT
Illegal dumping and burning of garbage near a school by the Municipal Council, Kapurthala, was brought before the NGT. The applicant school — Sacred Heart Public School — filed photographs showing that garbage was being dumped as well as burnt.
Keeping in consideration the facts, the NGT on May 7, 2019 directed the chief secretary, Punjab, to look into the subject of solid waste management at Kapurthala.
What is the status of notification on eco-sensitive zone of Western Ghat: NGT asks MoEF&CC
The NGT on May 7, 2019 heard an application filed before it on the finalisation of the notification on the eco-sensitive zone of the Western Ghat. The tribunal noted that according to the August 24, 2018 order, the matter was to be finalised within six months.
The NGT directed that a report be furnished by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC) about the status of compliance of the orders within one month.
