While coming down heavily on the "Greater Thal Canal Project", the Karachi city district government in Pakistan has asked the federal government to stop its construction immediately. The city council in its resolution indicated that lakes, canals and water of Indus river had been a source of irrigation for land cultivation in the province. However, for the last few years, the water bodies had dried up and put the livelihood of the farmers at stake. The council pointed out that if Thal Canal was constructed, the province would be deprived of even the little water that is left in the region.
