A heat wave is likely this weekend over parts of eastern and Northeast India, according to the bulletin of the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Heat wave conditions are very likely in isolated pockets of Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on May 10 and 11; in Gangetic West Bengal during May 8-13; Odisha during May 9-13 and Bihar and Jharkhand during May 10-13.
“Hot & humid weather is likely to prevail over Odisha on 08th; Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal, Kerala & Mahe on 08th May,” the bulletin added.
Scattered to fairly widespread light/moderate rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds at speeds reaching 40-50 kilometres per hour (kmph) and gusting to 60 kmph is likely over Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh during May 8-11 and with winds speed reaching 30-40 kmph and gusting to 50 kmph over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim, Odisha on May 8.
Isolated hailstorm activity is likely over western Madhya Pradesh on May 8, while isolated heavy rainfall is likely over Nicobar, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on May 11.
In the northwest, isolated hailstorm is very likely over Uttarakhand on May 8, while dust storm is very likely at isolated places over western Rajasthan during May 8-11.
In the west, fairly widespread to widespread light/moderate rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds at speeds reaching 40-50 kmph and gusting to 60 kmph is likely over Konkan, Goa and Marathawada on May 8; Madhya Maharashtra and Gujarat during May 8-11.
Isolated to scattered light/moderate rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm, lightning and strong winds at speeds reaching 30-40 kmph and gusting to 50 kmph is likely over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala and Mahe during May 8-9, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Rayalaseema and Telangana during May 8-11.
In the Northeast, fairly widespread to widespread light/moderate rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds at speeds reaching 30-40 kmph and gusting to 50 kmph is likely during the next five days.
“Isolated heavy rainfall over Arunachal Pradesh during 09th-11th; Assam & Meghalaya during 10th & 11th May,” the IMD said.
