Duck Shooting Australia

Anti-duck shooters in Australia have said they will take full advantage of the international media's presence in Melbourne during the Commonwealth Games in May, 2006. On December 5, 2005, 40 environmental and political groups presented a joint document to the government of Victoria, urging it to ban the sport. Trevor Poulten, the spokesperson of these groups said, "If the Victorian government doesn't announce a ban on duck shooting, then we'll be heading off to the wetlands come early March."

Every year hundreds thousands of ducks are shot over the wetlands of Victoria in the name of 'sport': recreational duck hunting. Some of these birds are killed, many others are crippled or wounded and die within a few hours or days.
