Punished at last

The former head of the biggest hunting association of France has been directed to pay a penalty for violating a European Union's (EU) law aimed at protecting migratory birds. Pierre Daillant, former president of the National Union of Local Hunters' Federations, will pay US $5,300 to two associations of bird lovers, which had filed the lawsuit. Daillant had organised a hunting party on February 15, 1999 to protest against the enforcement of EU environment directives. Daillant says he intends to appeal against the decision.
