The department of horticulture in Orissa has evolvedthe 'pitcher-method-drip-irrigation' where earthen pitchers filledwith water are placed under plants%?which require a constant flow ofwater. A hole at the bottom of thepitcher allows the water to dripslowly near the root of the plant.This cost-effective method not onlyirrigates the plants but is alsoserving the cause of the local1unthare(potters) who make alliving out of selling the pots.
