a carbon Trust has been recently launched in the uk in an attempt to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. The trust is a key part of the country's climate change programme. The overall aim of the trust is to work with business institutions, public bodies, government and research communities for moving towards a sustainable and lower-carbon economy. "The Carbon Trust will help everyone save energy and support new low carbon technologies," said John Prescott, the country's deputy prime minister.
"It will also bring together business organisations, government, researchers, consumers and non-governmental organisations to develop a new strategic vision for a low carbon future," the minister added. Prescott said it would help address long-term challenges of increasing the country's capacity to meet problems of climate change, considering not only commercial and technological factors, but wider socioeconomic aspects that come in the way of moving towards a low carbon economy. "A economy emitting less carbon is essential to protect the environment. There are major gains in store if we can shape the emerging low carbon technology market," he said. n
