>> Ullas Karanth, the Indian wildlife biologist, best known for his prolific research and writing on tigers, has been given the prestigious J Paul Getty Award for Conservation Leadership for 2007-- an annual award conferred by the Los Angeles-based Getty Centre to "honour outstanding contributions to international conservation".

>> The Australian Electoral Commission will use videos translated into eight indigenous languages to help guide people in remote communities on how to vote. The commission's spokesperson said staff has travelled to 130 remote communities this year to encourage voter participation.
