For over 40 years India’s net sown areas remain the same; drought-hit areas have to increase production to match food demand. 
Primarily a rain dependant state, Jharkhand is witnessing deficient rainfall for the past few years now and even its relatively well-off farmers are becoming daily-wage workers. 
Between October last year and February this year, the state government has declared 151 talukas and 268 revenue circle as drought-hit.
