Management of protected forests is a hotly debated issue. In the absence of a sound policy based on a scientific approach, there are as many opinions as there are people. In the meantime, wildlife is getting threatened. And people living in and around protected areas are turning hostile towards the forest and wildlife 'managers'. Given the increasing human population, the challenge ahead for India is to conserve wildlife. As part of the cover story, "Mutually Assured Destruction" (see p27), Down To Earth wrote to several people involved in the issue to react to the article.
