THE European Commission has already taken the initiative to secure a common environment product mark for leather goods, according to a paper prepared by the International Council of Tanners, the apex international forum for the industry.
The Netherlands has been allocated the task of preparing by 1995 the rules and conditions for footwear eco-label. And the United Nations Industrial Development Organization has proposed the forming of a committee to prepare a project paper delineating its role in monitoring and issuing the eco label for leather and leather products.
