Humans worldwide began wearing jewellery at the same time as groups started meeting up, say researchers from the University of Arizona in Tucson, usa . The finding counters the idea that 'modern' sophisticated behaviour swept the globe when humans migrated out of Africa. The researchers concluded this after unearthing ancient beads and necklaces at sites in Lebanon, Africa and Europe (www.nature.com , February 28, 2002).
