Drug-resistant TB Cases
The estimated number of multi-drug resistant / Rifampicin-resistant TB patients in India for 2018 is 1,30,000, which contributes to about 27 per cent of the global burden, a statement by the Union Ministry of Health presented in the Lok Sabha on December 6, 2019, said.
TB cases in rural areas
The number of TB patients diagnosed in rural and tribal areas increased from 4,70,185 in 2017, to 9,05,246 in 2018, and 11,59,329 in 2019, Union Minister for Health Harshvardhan told the Lok Sabha.
Impact of air pollution on health
A total of 1.24 million deaths in India in 2017, which were 12.5 per cent of total deaths, were attributable to air pollution, including 0.67 million from ambient particulate matter pollution and 0.48 million from household air pollution, according to an article published in the Lancet Planetary Health 2018 on December 6, 2018, Harshvardhan told the Lok Sabha.
Disposal of urban solid waste
Under the Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) (SBM-U) programme, an allocation of Rs 7,424.24 crore was made for solid waste management projects, including plastic waste for the mission period of 2014-15 to 2019-20.
An amount of Rs 5,024.45 crore had been released to state governments till November 2019, Union Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Prakash Javadekar told the Lok Sabha.
Challenges of pollution and environment
In Delhi, the average annual PM2.5 concentration in 2018 reduced by 7.3 per cent over 2017 and 14.8 per cent over 2016. The average annual PM10 concentration in 2018 reduced by 8.6 per cent over 2017 and 16.5 per cent over 2016, Prakash Javadekar told the Lok Sabha.
