Race Australia
Imagine what it would be like if aboriginal settlers arrived to settle a continent inhabited by Caucasian people? In 1788, the settlers of Caucasian origin arrived in Botany Bay to begin the process of white colonisation of Australia. But in Babakiueria, a popular Australian documentary now available in dvd format, the roles are reversed in a satire on colonisation.
Babakiueria is a fictitious land, where people of Caucasian origin are in a minority and so must obey laws made by aboriginals. This 'reverse angle' probe into racial inequality in Australia has developed a considerable cult following in the country.
It approaches its subject with humour but is no less effective for that. Many valid points are posed for the viewer concerning racial/ethnic assumptions and relations as well as the incongruities of contemporary Australian society.
The "mainstream" Australia lifestyle is seen through (patronising) aboriginal eyes within a documentary format, written by the noted Australian screenplay writer Geoffrey Atherden.
