A radio alarm that can catch computer thieves in the act was launched last month in the UK. The device, 'PC Tracker', is a small card fitted inside a computer. If the computer is moved or opened up, the card sends a radio signal to a receiver in the PC Tracker Management System. The signal identifies which computer is being tampered with and who the owners are, so they can be alerted. During daytime, the system informs the network manager and at night an alarm signal is sent to the police. Designed by Network IT of Buckinghamshire, the system is likely to cost US $75 per computer.
