CYCLONE-PRONE areas are likely to reap the benefits of a wind tunnel devised By the structural Engineering Research Centre(SERC), a unit of the Council of Industrial Research (CSIR) based in Madras. Recently, CSIR the cyclones unveiled plans to commission the tun nel mechanism to carry out experimen I wen are likely to reap tal investigations on model structures of a wind tunnel devised by simulating conditions of cyclones. wd Engineering Research According to T V S R Appa Rao, director, a anit of the Council of SE11c and coordinating director, CSIR Madras complex, this now Anherfes is part of a project being Implemented by SERC to evolve improved guidelines for designing cyclone resistant and safe structures. Another facet of the pro gramme is to evolve a mechanism, using new mathematical tools, to predict a building's vulnerabi lity or probability of getting damaged due to cyclones.
