Concerned by high levels of smog in the Washington area, the Sierra Club and three other groups have sued the environment protection agency (EPA) of the US to force Virginia, Maryland and the District to take better steps to clean up the smog. The environmental groups said in their lawsuit that the EPA had failed to demand timely action to reduce ozone, the main ingredient of smog. They have asked the EPA to order specific measures to cut local ozone production.
