according to local media reports, Russia may sell its space station Mir to China. Reporting on the last round of bilateral defence cooperation talks held in Moscow in the first week of March, local daily Izvestia stated that "Russia will help the People's Republic of China (prc ) to build an orbital station."

Although the agreements were tentative, they could involve selling Mir to China. Izvestia reported: "The Chinese would have to spend several billion dollars to build a new station from scratch. But the cost can be greatly cut if a somewhat modified Mir station is 'exported' to China under a programme of creating its own platform in space."

Initially, Russia had offered to rent out Mir. But according to a Russian cosmonaut, the Chinese would insist on putting their own flag on the station.
