The Supreme Court has turned down an application by the Karnataka government to raise the height of the Almatti dam on the Krishna river in Karnataka. The Andhra Pradesh government says that Karnataka is not entitled to increase the height of the Almatti dam by beyond 519 metres. It said that if Karnataka was permitted to increase the height to about 524 metres, as proposed, it would enable Karnataka to utilise about 442 tmc of water instead of 155 tmc as permitted by the Bachawat award.
