Coronavirus update: Modi talks of Rs 20 lakh cr special package

New set of guidelines for 4th stage of Lockdown before May 18

Prime Minister Narendra Modi says new set of guideliens will be introduced before May 18, 2020 for the fourth stage of country-wide lockdown.

  • Centre to provide Rs 20 lakh crore financial package to make India self-dependent amid the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.
  • Says this would roughly equate 10 per cent of India’s gross domestic product. 
  • Modi talks of the necessity of bold reforms. Says they would spur business, generate investments and help ‘Make in India’.
  • Stresses on local products.
  • India’s tally of total cases positive to the novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) was at 70,756 by May 12 morning, according to the Union health ministry.
  • Of them, 22,455 were cured / discharged.
  • The number of active cases: 46,008.
  • The country has recorded 2,293 deaths from the ensuing COVID-19 disease.
