The private agency in charge of constructing a sewage treatment plant (STP) in Nalanda Town colony, Shamshabad Road, Agra, Uttar Pradesh has started work and has promised to complete it soon.
The developer had been accused in a complaint filed before the National Green Tribunal (NGT) of discharging 0.145 million litres of sewage per day on open land.
The Agra Development Authority has now started to dispose off the sewage-mixed water deposited in the drains and empty plots outside the gate of the Nalanda Town colony through tankers. It also asked the private developer to complete work on the STP.
It filed an action-taken report June 7, 2022, which was in compliance of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) orders, December 1, 2021 and March 24, 2022.
Notice was also sent to similarly situated developers who haven't constructed STP.
The lands acquired for the Sabariamala Pilgrim Centre Complex, Pathanamthitta, Kerala does not include any wetland area, an affidavit filed by the district collector of Pathanamthitta, said.
A case had been filed against the construction of Sabariamala Pilgrim Centre Complex in Ranni, Ittiyappara, stating that the work site came under the category of wetland.
The revenue divisional officer, Thiruvalla, conducted a meeting of officials March 21, 2022, to assess the progress in construction and the impediments in restarting the construction of the pilgrim centre at Ittiyappara.
The executive engineer, Public Works Department (Buildings) said in the meeting that the land in question was converted before 2000 and it was mistakenly included in the data bank as a wetland. Necessary steps needed to be taken urgently to rectify the mistake (de-notifying the land from the data bank), the engineer added.
The Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB) had monitored and identified units which were manufacturing throwaway plastics illegally, the TNPCB said in a report the NGT June 10, 2022.
The board had issued directions for closure and disconnection of power supply to 117 industries which were involved in the manufacture of banned plastic from January 2019 to October 2021.
“In spite of various awareness and enforcement activities, it was found difficult to identify all plastic units manufacturing banned plastic items, which may co-exist and operate illegally in a small space within residential / commercial establishments,” the report said.
