public hearing on the proposed 3,000 mw Dibang Multipurpose Project, which was to be held on August 20 at Anini in Arunachal Pradesh's Dibang Valley, has been postponed following protests by civil society groups.

On August 11, organizations including the All Idu Mishmi Students' Union, Downstream Anti-Dam Committee, Dam Affected Citizens' committee, All Assam Tai Ahom Students' Union and Takam Mising Porin Kebang called for a 12-hour bandh in Lower Dibang Valley district and Sadiya sub-division of Assam's Dibrugarh district protesting against the project. The hearing will now be conducted after Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu and the Rajya Sabha member from Arunachal Pradesh, Mukut Mithi, meet the protesters on August 28 and discuss issues of displacement, downstream impact and environmental implications.
