Consumers can now identify and support socially and environmentally benign businesses, courtesy the alliance between online environmental network Care2 and nonprofit consumer organisation Co-op America. The two have teamed up to present a web resource which will help consumers choose the company with a green commitment .

Greenpages.org offers an extensive directory of businesses that support sustainable business practices and have met rigorous screens for their social and environmental practices. The new resource makes it easier for consumers to find green products, thus providing a valuable resource for concerned consumers for eco-oriented businesses. The products include certified organic milk and dairy products, natural hair, body care products and so on. "At a time when consumers don't know which businesses they can trust, we are very pleased to be offering them the website, which will give them access to thousands of businesses that share their values," said Alisa Gravitz, executive director of Co-op America. "These businesses have passed our screens and follow environmentally responsible practices." The site has listed more than 2,000 businesses that have a commitment to sustainable business practises. To join, businesses must submit an online form, complete an enrolment package and meet the same criteria for social and environmental responsibility as members of the Co-op America.
